Earlier this month, Bito’s international team gathered in beautiful Goa, India for an offsite focused on enhancing developer workflow, increasing platform flexibility, and personalizing the coding experience.
We tackled the challenge head-on through hackathons, resulting in a series of major upgrades to Bito’s AI Code Review Agent and AI Chat.
Upgrades include:
Let’s have a look at each in more detail.
Improving Bito’s AI Code Review Agent
We are introducing significant new features to Bito’s AI Code Review Agent to ensure code reviews are of higher quality and more efficient.
Note: The AI Code Review Agent is included with Bito’s 10X Developer Plan. Activate now if you’re a subscriber, or get a 14-day free trial if you are not.
1. Multiple specialized engineers
The Agent now functions as “a team” of specialized AI engineers, each focusing on different aspects of your pull request. Whether it’s performance, code structure, security, optimization, or scalability, this multifaceted analysis results in more detailed and insightful code reviews, saving you time and improving code quality.
2. AI that understands your code
The AI Code Review Agent now boasts a more robust ability to understand your code base and how code changes impact your existing code. By leveraging advanced techniques — like Symbol Indexing, Abstract Syntax Trees (AST), and Embeddings — the agent analyzes the context from your entire repository. Read How does Bito’s “AI that understands your code” works? to learn more.
This comprehensive analysis allows for more accurate and actionable code reviews, covering a wide range of programming languages including JavaScript, TypeScript, Java, Go, Python, C, C++, PHP, and C#.
3. Static code analysis for Python
Bito’s AI Code Review Agent has expanded its support to include static code analysis using Astral Ruff and Mypy. This addition complements the existing support for Java, Objective C, and C/C++, offering proactive identification of potential errors and vulnerabilities. It not only enhances the quality of your Python codebase but also accelerates your development cycles.
4. Inline comments
The introduction of inline comments in GitHub and GitLab is a game-changer. Code suggestions are now provided directly within the code diffs of each file, offering precise guidance on the necessary fixes. This feature, enabled by default, enriches the review process by showing the number of files changed and suggestions made, with direct links to the specific changes for an efficient review process.
5. GitHub and GitLab Enterprise integrations
For organizations prioritizing security, especially those in regulated industries, the AI Code Review Agent now integrates with self-hosted GitHub and GitLab Enterprise environments. This aligns with strict data compliance requirements, providing peace of mind without sacrificing functionality.
Improved UI and UX of Bito IDE Extensions
For developers, a smooth and efficient development environment is crucial. Bito IDE Extensions aim to do just that, seamlessly integrating AI assistance into your favorite IDEs like Visual Studio Code and JetBrains products. This update brings a wave of UI/UX improvements to the Bito user interface and user experience, making it even more intuitive and comfortable to leverage the power of AI within your coding workflow.
1. Light and dark themes
With the new light and dark themes available for Visual Studio Code and JetBrains IDEs, you can tailor the Bito panel to match your preferred coding environment. For VS Code users, an adaptive theme mode ensures that the Bito panel and font colors automatically align with your selected theme, creating a cohesive visual experience.
2. Font size control
Bito now offers the ability to adjust the font size within the extension settings, enhancing code readability and ensuring a comfortable viewing experience for prolonged coding sessions.
3. Intelligent question handling
Bito’s AI smartly determines the intent behind your questions about your codebase. Bito now understands if you are asking about your codebase, and then immediately answers the question, providing the LLM with the relevant code. If Bito is not sure you are asking about your codebase, it asks you to confirm, ensuring that you receive precise assistance.
What’s next
We believe this is only the beginning of how Bito can help engineering teams ship faster, better code.
Our roadmap for Q2 includes more improvements to the quality of Bito’s code recommendations, the ease with which suggestions can be accepted, and much more customizability to fit your organization. Bito’s AI Code Review Agent will soon be available to run in your IDE, too, so you can iterate on code before you get to PR.
