How Privado scaled high-quality code reviews with Bito

United States

Summary

Privado is a developer-first data privacy platform that helps companies monitor how personal data is handled across their codebase. With 130 employees and $17.5 million in funding, the company is building tools for some of the most regulated environments in tech.

As the engineering team expanded, they began looking for ways to scale code reviews without slowing down velocity or compromising quality. Bito’s AI Code Review Agent became part of that answer.

Privado saw a 30% improvement in engineering productivity. Developers reported saving over two hours a day and said they felt more confident and efficient during the review process.

About Privado

Privado helps engineering and privacy teams work together to ensure responsible data practices in software development. Its scanning engine runs directly against a company’s codebase and flags where personal data is used, stored, or shared.

With multiple services under active development, the engineering team has to move quickly while ensuring their code is stable and easy to maintain.

Internal expectations for quality are high.
Review cycles must be fast and thorough.
Security and privacy are non-negotiable.

We spoke with Prashant Mahajan, Co-founder and CTO, about how Bito’s AI Code Review Agent fits into their process.

Challenges

As Privado scaled, the engineering team began to see patterns that slowed them down. These challenges affected both speed and quality.

  • Ramp-up on new codebases took too long: New developers often struggled to understand unfamiliar code. It took longer for them to contribute effectively.
  • Test cases were skipped under time pressure: Writing tests often got pushed aside in favor of urgent feature work. Developers lacked structured prompts or reminders to cover edge cases.
  • Repetitive boilerplate work slowed everyone down: Developers spent time on setup tasks like formatting, scaffolding, and writing near-identical logic, leading to a broken momentum.
  • Review coverage was inconsistent across the team: Manual reviews depended heavily on who was available. Some pull requests got detailed feedback, others very little.

Solutions

After exploring various AI Coding Assistant tools, including GitHub Copilot and Tabnine, Privado ultimately chose Bito as the optimal solution due to its superior feature set and capabilities.

  • Automated pull request reviews: Bito runs on every PR and leaves detailed feedback on specific lines. Developers no longer need to wait on human reviewers to get started.
  • Identifies gaps in test coverage: When test cases are missing or incomplete, Bito flags them. This helped reinforce testing practices across the team.
  • Eliminates boilerplate and surface-level cleanup: Bito catches repetitive logic and formatting issues early. Developers don’t have to fix the same problems repeatedly.
  • Summarizes changes for faster understanding: Every review starts with a short summary that gives reviewers a high-level overview of the pull request. This makes it easier for the rest of the team to understand what’s changing.
  • Works securely in production environments: Bito doesn’t store user code or log identifiable data. Privado confirmed that the product met their internal privacy and compliance requirements. The tool is SOC 2 Type 1 certified and designed for enterprise use.

Results

After rollout, Privado surveyed their team and analyzed usage. The results were clear and measurable.

  • 30% boost in productivity: Developers reported less time spent on manual review prep, debugging, and writing tests. Having suggestions appear right away made the development cycle more efficient.
  • Over 2 hours saved per developer per day: Most of that time came from faster feedback and less repetitive work. Developers no longer had to wait on reviewers or write the same cleanup fixes over and over.
  • 82% of developers reported higher satisfaction: Engineers said they felt more productive and less blocked. Reviews became predictable and helpful, without being overwhelming or noisy.
  • Securing Privacy with Bito: Bito’s best-in-class privacy and security policies contributed to Privado’s overall success and the satisfaction of its development team.

In the future, Privado plans to continue leveraging Bito, exploring new ways to further enhance its development workflows and reduce costs.
